About Us
Sandra van der Merwe
Sandra is a registered Professional Architect with over 19 years of experience. She is interested in how broader urban; sustainability and heritage considerations are followed through at various scales from planning to architecture. She aims to deliver projects that are contextually appropriate and considerate, resilient, and contributing to positive public environments.
After graduating Sandra worked in Europe spending 6 months in the Renzo Piano building workshop in Paris and then in various practises in the Cape Region. She has been a member of the practice since 2005, first as part of Design Studio Cape Town CC, and later as part of NM & Associates, when Design Studio was absorbed into the practice in 2010. Sandra became a director at NM & Associates in 2015 and fulfils the role of project architect. She participates in projects with multi-disciplinary teams including planning applications where design input is required to shape detailed site planning and feasibilities. Her interest and skills in the heritage domain add value to projects in complex heritage rich environments. She currently Co- Chair of Docomomo-SA, the local chapter of the international committee for documentation and conservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods of the modern movement.

- 2004: Bachelor of Architecture with distinction and distinction in design (University of Cape Town)
