Woodstock – Salt River Revitalisation Framework| The Project Challenge The challenge of the Woodstock – Salt River inner city revitalisation framework was to re-enforce the environment as an “efficient and qualitative living environment”. Therefore, a holistic debate in inner city revitalisation must move beyond issues of historic character, clean ups, and crime and grime and should include and represent the range of social and environmental issues and concerns relevant to the study area and the city. The Woodstock Salt River Revitalisation Framework outlines a broad strategic vision for the regeneration of the area. Proposals include the urban design of public precincts with opportunities for historic preservation, restoring public space, reinforcing economic opportunities associated with historic and cultural public spaces and main routes or corridors. The framework concludes with a spatial, social, economic and management strategy to respond to bite-size projects that are sufficiently practical for community-based organizations to implement and sustain with limited funding and resources. Approach to the Revitalisation Framework At the outset and throughout the Woodstock-Salt River Revitalisation process, the question of “an efficient and qualitative living environment” formed the basis of analysis for this strategic framework. The challenge of addressing quality and efficiency in a context of extreme diversity, living patterns and standards within the study area is responded to in the strategic proposals that follow. The approach to this challenge is founded on the following guidelines where the notions of efficiency and quality are developed.
